I went online and looked at the adaptable dogs and captured a picture of the dog that we were interested in so that I could save the time not walking around stressing out all of the other dogs. Knowing which animal(s) that you're really interested in will save you alot of time. And it keeps the dogs in kennels from getting stressed out by people just walking by. I highly recommend being prepared before going to look. These shelters don't have alot of money and they get way too many dogs that have been mistreated. We met Sheldon and fell in love. The adoption process was easy. Took Sheldon home and introduced him to new rescue sister Clover and became best friends. Our vet told us that this shelter did alot for my dog medically since it was obvious that he had been left outside most of his 8 years and had numerous infections that caused him skin issues. The dogs teeth had shown the he had eaten rocks to stay alive. The owners did this, not the shelter. This shelter has given me a beautiful dog that we love very much yes your animal may need a vet for more extensive help since a shelter can only do so much. Thank you for my new sweet dog and for helping others.

My husband and I adopted Rosalie. A giant dog with a giant heart. It will be two weeks on Friday and she is an amazing addition to our family. She has been to the vet and he’s on proper medication and she takes it like a champ. Happy new year. God bless. I just read some reviews. These wonderful people are doing the very best for these animals. They give as much love and care to them as humanly possible. If you’re fussy because it was chaotic and you had to wait you are a jerk.

Our baby passed away a bit ago and we were ready for another new family member. We actually visited twice, the first time we just weren’t ready. The second time we met “Ginger” (now Meeko) and were hooked. Lake County Animal Shelter hadn’t had Meeko long but for the time they had him they really knew him. He was very shy at first and the handler actually had to carry him around (and to our car lol). The staff really cares about the animals and works with them. Like leash training and if they have them for longer, they teach them tricks! They get as much information as they can to place them in the right homes. I had a list of dogs to visit both times and the handlers helped me narrow them down to what dogs were suitable for our home. The associates, from the greeter, the handlers, then finally to the person that does the adoption paperwork, were all so very friendly. It seemed like they actually love what they are doing and care about these animals. If anyone from Lake County Animal Control reads this, Thank You So Much for our Meeko!! He is literally the perfect fit. He loves his new brother, Apollo and already walks on his leash perfectly! He took tips from Apollo and they walk in sync together. He’s so happy! (Also he’s scared of our cats so he doesn’t try to even get near them lol). And to the gentleman that was our handler a special thank you! All the information you were able to give helped so much in getting the most adorable, sweet, lovable baby, we just can’t thank you enough. Side note-I’ve seen some of these reviews talking about wait time and not being able to walk the kennels. Know who you want to look at before you walk in, kennel Id, name and dog Id number and wait time is barely anything. Not being able to walk the kennels is for the health of the dogs. It gives them anxiety. This makes me believe the staff CARES about their well-being. If a person can’t see that, maybe they don’t need a dog because obviously they don’t care about their health. They are already in a shelter, albeit an excellent one, but a shelter nonetheless, why make it worse for them?
